Experienced tax professional with expertise on how to save companies money through credits and incentives.


As a Principal with Specialty Tax Group, Brian specializes in statutory tax credits and negotiated incentives. Brian has been in the tax credits and incentives industry since 2011, with prior experience at McMillian & Associates and Deloitte Tax.


Brian was brought onboard to lead the Research and Development Tax Credit vertical for STG, but also has a focus on the 179D Commercial Building Energy Efficient Tax Deduction, the 45L Energy Efficient Home Credit, the Georgia Retraining Tax Credit, the Georgia Jobs Tax Credit, the Georgia Investment Tax Credit, and the Federal Clean Energy Investment Tax Credit. Brian earned his bachelor's degree in Business Management from the University of Georgia. He is a member of the Institute for Professionals in Taxation (IPT) where he earned his Certified Credits & Incentives Professional (CCIP).

Why did you choose to work at STG?

I chose to work at STG because of my relationship with John Hanning. My respect for him, not only in business but as a person, in combination with the potential that I saw for his vision, made it an easy decision to join STG.


What is your favorite aspect of your job?

My favorite aspect of the job will be establishing and building on client relationships.


What's your work style?

My preferred work style is gaining a full understanding of what I need to accomplish, establishing a plan and then executing efficiently.


What "bright idea" do you find yourself sharing over and over again?

Don’t worry about things you cannot control. Instead, put your head down and work hard and good things will happen.


What do you consider to be your best quality?

My dad instilled in me an “old-school” work ethic where I give my best effort in everything that I do.


What did 10-year-old you want to be when you grew up?

A professional baseball player or a mailman.


What profession would you choose if you didn’t go into accounting? 

A general manager for a major league baseball team or a real estate agent.
